Do I need a crown after a root canal?

Crowns
The short answer
For back teeth, usually yes: a root-treated molar is more prone to cracking under chewing forces, and a crown protects it. A front tooth that remains largely intact may only need a good filling. The decision depends on how much tooth is left, its position and your bite, and Dr. Khalid Saeed makes it with X-rays and examination at Celebrity Smile Center in Duhok, Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The detailed answer
Root canal treatment removes infection from inside the tooth but does not rebuild what was lost. The tooth has often already lost a lot of structure to the original decay, old fillings and the access opening. Back molars carry heavy chewing loads, and with only a large filling they can split, sometimes down into the root, making the tooth unsavable. That is why molars that have had a root canal are covered with a crown in most cases.
Front teeth are different. If the access opening is small and the walls are strong, a well-sealed bonded filling may be enough, since front teeth do not carry the same chewing forces. But if the tooth has darkened or has large fillings, a crown or veneer may give a better appearance. See chipped and broken teeth for related options.
Dr. Khalid Saeed checks the quality of the root canal on X-rays before crowning, because a crown over incomplete root canal treatment may fail. The tooth is then built up inside, and the plan specifies the crown: usually zirconia for molars for strength and E.max for front teeth for appearance. Crowns can be made at Creative Art Dental Lab in Dubai.
Do not leave a long gap between the root canal and the crown; a temporary filling does not protect the tooth for long, and leakage can let infection return. If you are travelling, plan appointments in advance on WhatsApp so both steps fit into one organised visit. Read more about crowns and bridges.
